DHL Exported Milan Finalists

Making it big in the luxury goods capital of Milan is notoriously tough. With so much home-grown talent and high quality fashion already being produced in Italy, it takes a unique approach to high-end design to break in at Milan Fashion Week.

Two incredibly talented designers fit that mould, bringing them to the final round of the DHL Exported competition aimed at launching a local brand into the Italian spotlight come September. Both brands are from New York and both have the business acumen and the fans to ensure a great reception from both buyers and the media – an essential part of getting a leg up in a tough market.

So who are these designers?

Pyer Moss is the label started by Kerby Jean-Raymond in 2013 after he'd already spent more than a decade in the business. A teenaged protege of Kay Unger, Kerby attended the High School of Fashion Industries in New York and got his big break after singer Rihanna was seen wearing one of his men's cut leather jackets and the demand for a women's line was born. The debut collection has gotten great press and Pyer Moss was recently picked up by Browns of London, paving the way for international success.

Nicholas K is a brother-sister team who've been showing at IMG Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York since 2011. They've been featured in major US publications and their garments were worn in the blockbuster movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and have been worn by several celebrities. It's an exciting time for the decades-old label devoted to producing luxurious everyday sportswear with an urban edge.
